Dalgona Coffee

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hot water
  • 3/4 to 1 cup milk
  • Ice cubes (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a small mixing bowl, stir together the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. 
  2. Using a handheld electric mixer, beat the mixture on high speed until stiff peaks form (2 to 4 minutes).
  3. If using the ice cubes, add them to a mug or glass. Pour milk over the ice and dollop the whipped coffee on top. 

Note: If you don’t have an electric mixer, you can beat the coffee mixture by hand. Just be prepared to beat the mixture for an insanely long time (400 strokes or more).

Feel free to add toppings, such as honey, cocoa, or fine coffee grounds.

Fun Fact

Dalgona coffee, which originated in Macau, is also known as "whipped coffee" or "hand-beaten coffee."
